Banquet 2017

We had a wonderful evening at our annual banquet on March 3rd, 2017. We were so encouraged to see so many faces. We felt the support from our community. Thank you so much to those who attended. If you were not able to attend, we will see you next year! Hermitage Baptist Church allowed us to use their new facility for this banquet. It was a perfect location, with banquet seating for 136. We set this number as a goal for attendance. There were 142 people there! You filled the seats and filled our hearts with gratitude! Next year we will have to find a larger facility!

Before I get to reviewing our goals for this year, I want to say thank you to the following individuals and organizations:

Hermitage Baptist Church, and specifically Suzanne and the kitchen committee for making sure we were set

Trent and Wendy from Lilfred’s for being awesome and feeding us a delicious dinner

MOSAIC from The Dance Place for sharing the beauty of worship through dance with us.

Lugoff Rowan ARP Church MOPS, specifically Stephanie Stokes and Jennifer Jordan, for decorating for the banquet.

Katie Woolington, for lending us vases

Donny Supplee for coming out and sharing about the partnership between MWC and United Way of Kershaw County

Kershaw Baptist Association for the use of your screen and projector, and Kathy for being patient with me while I tried numerous times to print our programs in your office.

UPS Store in Camden for saving the day when I decided to outsource printing programs. 🙂

Pam Jones and Lillie Williams for working the registration desk

Rev. Craigan Blankenship for coming early and working diligently to help us get it all together

Katie Bull, our nurse manager, for doing whatever needed all day Friday

Emily Hodge, a new volunteer at MWC (Yay!) who worked during setup and cleanup to help in any way she could

Okay, our theme for the evening was Charting Our Course: Voyage of Hope. We reflected on where the organization has been over the past year, and where we are going in the coming year. We discussed how YOU have the opportunity to partner with Midlands Women’s Center in the work that God is doing in Kershaw County through this ministry. With such enthusiastic support from our community, we are now ready to set sail! As partners, (Shipmates? How far do I want to take this nautical theme?) you are the reason we can do what we do, so it is our privilege to keep you updated on progress as we work toward our objectives.

Plan for 2017:

Continue our mission of sharing the love of Jesus Christ with those in pregnancy related situations

Offer ultrasound to clients beginning summer 2017

Encourage and support the launch of Embrace Grace groups in Kershaw County. Our goal is to have at least 3 groups. One in the LE area, one in Camden, and one in the area served by North Central High School. This plan will help our clients connect with churches in the community.

Revitalize and expand our parenting program. This is the educational component of our services. We see a need in our community for more thorough prenatal education. In the past, our parenting program has moved from week to week through topics including pregnancy, relationships, birth, finances, and parenting. We want to expand on these topics and offer our clients more intensive education in some of these areas. If clients choose to participate in these classes, they will earn dollars to spend in our “store.” Our materials, including videos, need updating to be more relevant to the generation we serve and to ensure they cover the most up to date, evidence based information. We look forward to offering a more thorough course on pregnancy and childbirth, more information on optimal health and nutrition for women, babies, and families living in poverty in Kershaw County, and a perhaps a more formal course on budgeting, finances, and professional development.

Midlands Women’s Center belongs to the amazing community that is Kershaw County. We believe that every life was made by our loving Creator, and we believe that He wants each and everyone of these lives to have ABUNDANT life. We believe that being a pro-abundant life organization means going beyond preventing abortion. It means offering hope to women and families in very difficult situations. It means we follow through on our responsibility, as the people of the God, to the poor and needy among us.

Isaiah 58:6-10

Is this not the fast that I have chosen:
To loose the bonds of wickedness,
To undo the heavy burdens,
To let the oppressed go free,
And that you break every yoke?
 Is it not to share your bread with the hungry,
And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out;
When you see the naked, that you cover him,
And not hide yourself from your own flesh?
 Then your light shall break forth like the morning,
Your healing shall spring forth speedily,
And your righteousness shall go before you;
The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.
 Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer;
You shall cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am.

“If you take away the yoke from your midst,
The pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness,
 If you extend your soul to the hungry
And satisfy the afflicted soul,
Then your light shall dawn in the darkness,
And your darkness shall be as the noonday.”

May we offer hope for a more abundant life to all who encounter us!
