Dear Friend,

As 2016 comes to a close, we look ahead to a new beginning. Your gift to Midlands Women’s Center will help us off to a great start in 2017.

What is MWC doing for the community? We are holding up a light that affirms the importance of every life. Every baby, every mother, every father, every life is valuable and beautiful. We are committed to providing hope to women facing unplanned pregnancies.

According to CareNet, women in households with incomes under the federal poverty line ($11,770/year) experience more than 50% of all abortions in the US. I have read that 69% of all women who choose abortion make less than $23,540 each year (twice the poverty line). Further, more than 80% of these women are unmarried.(1)

More statistics to ponder:

“75% of women cite concern for or responsibility to other individuals as the reason for their abortion; 75% say they cannot afford a child; 75% say that having a baby would interfere with work, school, or the ability to care for dependents; and 50% say they do not want to be a single parent or are having problems with their husband or partner.” (2)

What would you need if you found yourself pregnant, yet you weren’t sure how you would go about sheltering, feeding, or clothing yourself, the children in your care, or your new baby?

First, you would need the hope of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and that hope is offered to those who come through our doors. You would need assistance with housing, clothing, health and nutrition, education, professional development, managing finances, baby items and gear, diapers, and so much more. We are able to meet some of these needs, and we partner with other organizations who can meet others. This is why Midlands Women’s Center exists. We are improving the spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being of women and children in our community.

Those of us who are pro-life stand between unborn lives and their untimely end. Here, as we hold up a beacon of hope, we must release the grip on our protest signs and hold out our hand to relieve the affliction of poverty.

“Is this not the fast that I have chosen:
To loose the bonds of wickedness,
To undo the heavy burdens,
To let the oppressed go free,
And that you break every yoke?
Is it not to share your bread with the hungry,
And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out;
When you see the naked, that you cover him,
And not hide yourself from your own flesh?
Then your light shall break forth like the morning,
Your healing shall spring forth speedily,
And your righteousness shall go before you;
The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. (Isaiah 58:6-8)
